What and Who is Leadership Girl?

Have you ever run into the situation where you are meeting other women in leadership or in business, and they act like there is only space for ONE woman in the space, and it’s not you?

Imagine sitting in a classroom full of students, looking around, and seeing only a couple of other women.  That was me in 2012 when I was at Duke, studying for my MBA. I felt like a fish out of water, wondering where all of the other women were.

Then, I walked into a meeting at work, and I was the only woman in a room. See, I was one of two female managers in my third line organization. So, if my manager wasn’t present, I was the only woman present.

It was just weird.  Where had all of the women gone?  Why weren’t they in leadership positions? Why weren’t they pursuing their MBAs?  Why are there so few women in entrepreneurship, and why don’t we support one another?

That’s exactly why I started Leadership Girl.  To provide support, education, and a community to support female leaders and small business owners.

The growth in jobs in the economy comes from small businesses, so what if we support one another and help fuel that growth in the economy?
