3 Simple Tips For After the Interview

Array of Headshots

I do lots of hiring. I’m always amazed at the different things that candidates do before, during, and after the interview. In this post, I’ll talk about some recommendations for sealing the deal for a job offer, and give you some simple tips for after the interview. It’s what you can do to improve your chances of getting an offer. 3 Simple Tips For After the Interview 1

1. Write a Thank You Note.

My first choice of thank you note is a printed copy that is mailed to me at work. Second choice is an emailed thank you note. Both are good, and believe it or not, rarely done.

3 Simple Tips For After the Interview 22. Keep In Touch With Your Interviewer.

Many times, I have found that the person who ends up getting the position is the one who stayed in touch with me. Sometimes, I may not have an opening immediately available, but when it does come available, periodically touching bases with me (every couple of months) increases the chances that you will get an offer. That’s because you will have made a stronger positive impression on me compared to others who have not stayed in touch.

3. Never Underestimate the Power of your Network. 3 Simple Tips For After the Interview 3

I’ve heard it said over and over again that it is not what you know, but who you know. This is true in almost every single field out there, and I can’t think of any exceptions to this rule. If you have any friends at the company you are targeting, it’s best to contact them prior to the interview, but certainly not a bad idea to contact them after the interview, to ask them to put in a good word for you.

In 3 simple steps, you can improve your odds of a successful interview. Of course, nothing will overpower a bad match. If you follow these three simple tips for after the interview, you will increase your odds of netting that job offer.
