Thus, like any other baby’s milestones, there is nothing that fills you with more pride than reaching the milestone of having to hire your first employee. It fills you up with pride knowing that you now need some type of help. Naturally, you want to do it the right way and not botch it. With that in mind, here are three tips to help you properly administer the hiring of your first employee:

Create a Detailed Job Listing

More often than not, qualified job applicants will want as much detail as possible. The more detail you include, the more appealing the job listing might seem to them. Along these same lines, the best job listings will include a number of important details, including:

  • The title of the job
  • A job summary that includes the job purpose and the duties of the job
  • The qualifications of the job, including any licenses or experience that might be required
  • A brief summary of the benefits and salary of the job

Look at More Than Education

Simply put, employers need to look at more than education if they want to find the right candidate to fit the position they are hiring for. Yes, education is definitely a good start, but what you want to know more than that is whether the candidate in question is a good fit for your organization. If you don’t think they are experienced enough, it would probably rule them out. Do their references check out? Do they give an impressive interview? Do they seem to do well under pressure? Moreover, what do your instincts tell you? If you encounter any red flags, it is probably best to go with another candidate.

Look at the Intangibles of Your Job Candidate

You also need to determine if the candidate in question has the right intangibles for your position. There are a number of ways to do this, including thoroughly examining a candidate’s resume to determine their personality. Additionally, you can simply ask them during the interview. To do this, have them elaborate on a time during their last position where they had a problem and had to get creative in order to solve it.

If you keep all of these tips in mind, you are sure to continue to grow your company by hiring a talented and enthusiastic employee. Making the right choice with the first employee can help to ensure the success to further grow your business.
