Because of the slow economic recovery, many employees find themselves working more hours to meet project deadlines and maintain productivity levels. As a result, they may feel overworked and unappreciated, which can decrease morale and motivation. This presents a huge challenge for business owners or managers who must constantly meet their quarterly objectives.
If you are having difficulty motivating your employees, here are some tips to rev it up each quarter so you can better reach your financial goals.
Empower Workers
Some of your employees may have suggestions as to how they can improve their jobs and productivity. But they may not divulge their suggestions on improving their efficiency if you don’t ask them, according to the Huffington Post. Provide your employees with the tools they need and give them more leeway to complete specific projects. For example, your marketing analyst may recommend that she take a course in database management to better coordinate internal databases. Allowing her to take the course and improver her job performance will serve as a motivator. Discuss these employee improvements at review time, and then allow your workers to recommend their own development plans. Monitor their progress each quarter to determine the overall impact.
Improve Communication
Always keep your employees aware of the company’s quarterly goals so they understand why they’re working so hard. Meet to discuss any problems your team encounters. Solve these issues as a team so your employees truly feel like they’re an important part of the team. When they excel at their work, compliment them on it. This shows that you appreciate their efforts, which can motivate them. Try meeting frequently to train and instruct employees on new procedures. As employees become more comfortable in performing their jobs, their motivation will likely increase.
Offer Incentives
Provide employees with incentives if they meet quarterly goals. This will help switch things up from the typical dull routine. Various incentives will give employees something to look forward to after working hard to meet quarterly objectives. Offer simple awards like “Employee of the Month,” which can motivate workers to achieve intended goals. Distribute multiple awards like cash, prizes and gift certificates so several people get rewards each month. Companies like Meet Chicago Northwest can assist you in renting space at a racetrack or zoo to reward your teams. Incentives go a step beyond a “thank you” to truly show your appreciation for your employee’s efforts.
Learn what motivates your employees to meet goals and utilize those techniques to achieve your quarterly objectives. When you find motivators that really work, stick with them.
