Engineer. Duke MBA. Founder of three businesses and a network of 77,000 women. Still learning to lead — and writing down what it teaches me.

About Haley 1

Logical, Rational, Simple Strategy

I’m an engineer with an MBA from Duke, which means I like data, systems and things that can be measured. I’m also deeply intuitive. For years I thought those were contradictory. They aren’t — the numbers tell me what’s happening, and my intuition tells me where to look harder.

I’m the founder and CEO of In2itive Biz Solutions, a digital marketing agency for small businesses. I founded the Women’s Entrepreneur Network, now more than 77,000 members. I built and sold a home care company and a franchise before that. And I write here, at Leadership Girl, about what building businesses has actually taught me — including the expensive parts. I’ve also written three books — Leadership Girl, Fearless Marketing and Choosing a Caregiver.

I’ve made most of the mistakes I write about. I once spent $47,500 on a launch and made one sale. I’ve hired too many people, delegated badly, and been told my mindset was the problem when the plan was. Those lessons cost real money, so you may as well have them free.

Outside work, I’m the mother of four, a long-time Girl Scout troop leader, and a firm believer that a business should fit around a life rather than swallow it.

What I Actually Believe

That most business problems turn out to be leadership problems wearing a disguise.

That being needed by your business is not the same as leading it — and that founders who can’t take a holiday have learned something important about how their company is built.

That women don’t need more encouragement. They need better information, honest peers, and someone to say the real number out loud.

And that the fastest way to change who is at the table is to stop waiting for an invitation and set one.

In the Media

I’ve been interviewed on NBC, ABC and CBS affiliates, written ten guest articles for the Huffington Post, and guest-posted for Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship. I’ve also been featured in Carolina Business Woman and interviewed on radio and podcasts including Selling in a Skirt on iHeart Radio.
