Being a great leader and having great coaching skills are important, but to be truly successful you need to know how to be a great communicator. What will help position you as an expert coach? Just a few communication secrets.
Secret #1: Know your audience
It isn’t about sounding important and using fancy metaphors. It’s knowing who you are communicating to. What is important to them? What do they want? What are their aspirations and dreams? What are their challenges? When you know your audience well, you start communicating with them on an emotional level, which is critical to building trust and relationships with clients. If you work on a C-level position and have to deal with a lot of media interviews, this is even more important. Consult a media training coach on how to improve and solidify your communication skills.
Secret #2: Speak to one
Other than in individual coaching sessions, it’s rare to communicate on a 1:1 basis. It’s an exceptional skill to make a single person feel like you are speaking directly to them and them alone. And the secret is to picture your ideal client avatar in your mind when communicating.
Secret #3: Believe
You have to believe in yourself before you can successfully communicate with others. Without that self-belief, you will be a watered down version of yourself and you won’t be communicating passionately. When you passionately believe in yourself, others will quickly believe in you too.
Secret #4: Be authentic
When you communicate authentically, you communicate from a place of truth. You’ll be tapping into your passionate why, your raison d’etre, your purpose.. In doing so, your soul will light up and your passion will become contagious. Your audience will be intrigued and excited to hear what you have to say next.
Secret #5: Be aware of your emotions
Being aware of your emotions before communicating or responding will enable you to communicate without judgement. This enables you to think clearly and with the right outcome in mind.
Your self-belief, your honesty, your authenticity, and your emotional and audience awareness will position you as a great communicator and make you stand out from the crowd as a successful coach.
