~by Haley Lynn Gray~
Do you know what makes you different from the many other companies or individuals out there who do exactly what you do? What makes you better? What competitive advantage does your business have?
Why should someone choose to do business with you? What are your distinguishing points that make you stand out from everyone else in your own unique way?
Mine is that I’m an MBA from a top tier university, I have several companies of my own, and I have a very solid history with entrepreneurship. I know about business and about entrepreneurship because I’ve lived it on my own. I don’t just tell you how to do things, I show you how to do them. I know what works and what doesn’t work, and I can save you time, and money, while helping you make MORE money.
You need to talk about what your value proposition is for your client. Your job is to fix a problem that they have. What problems can you fix? I hire people all the time who do word-smithing for me for sales pages, and who do graphics, accounting, and other services, because those aren’t my skills. I can write well enough (as evidenced by writing so many blog posts, and books, and other things), but when it comes to the sales side for creating sales pages – that isn’t my forte. I know where my limits are, and I’m not an expert in absolutely everything.
Join me in this exercise…
Write down 20 things that make you unique or different. List what you do, your experiences, your background, and what makes you and your company special.
What is your story? What is your WHY of your business?
Go ahead. I’ll wait. 😉
What things do you see on that list? Which of those things can you use to help a client solve their problems? What things set you apart?
Once you stop to reflect and meditate on the things that make you different, you can start to understand your unique value proposition for your clients, and be able to offer them better insight into exactly what you can do for them.
