Entrepreneur Interview Q & A


1. What is your business/Business Name?  What does your business do?

Finding Your Voice Institute – I wanted to find something that fits my voice, and what I do. 

I offer products and services, and am a trained psychotherapist. I mostly am a workshop leader, a speaker, and a coach. I’m also a singer-songwriter, and I just finished my first book. 

I created a home-study course which is called “Finding Your Voice”.  It’s about using music and songwriting for healing, for self care, and for stress relief. It’s about going on the journey and finding where someone’s voice got silenced, and dealing with that. 

Music is incredibly therapeutic, and has interesting purposes. I like to listen to instrumental classical music when I’m writing, and some of the new age stuff, as long as it’s instrumental. If it has words, I start typing the words in the song when I’m writing. I’m also an ‘80’s girl, and love to crank up those songs some of the time. It depends on my mood.

2. Why did you get into this field?  What opportunities did you see?

I see it as a calling. At the age of 14, I found that I am called to be a healer. It came out of talking with a professional, and dealing with moving across the country. People just use me as a sounding board. 

3. What have been your biggest challenges? 

My biggest challenges have been to deal with my own stuff coming up – my own fear, my own insecurity. This is my third career, and I find that business owners get stuck on the logistics of things. Being in business is like a crash course in personal development. 

4. What has been your greatest reward?

I think my greatest reward has been just having this freedom and the flexibility in being my own boss. And, the ability to really see my vision come to life, and the way that it’s manifesting, and there is no limitation on the way it can happen if I do it myself. It’s about coming into it. It’s all towards what I’m being called to do, rather than working towards someone else’s purpose.

5. If you could change something, what would it be?

I’ve been thinking about that question a lot lately, because my business is entering a phase of growth. I wouldn’t have started my business until I was more clear on who I was, and what my business was. I spent some years floundering because I wasn’t sure. This is the third time I’ve rebranded, because I didn’t quite get it right before. I would attract clients that weren’t a good fit, so I had to figure out why. Branding is just about being clear about who you are.

6. If you could give a new entrepreneur advice, what would it be?

Know yourself, and be open to exploring who you are. Be open to dealing with whatever you need to deal with. 

It’s about surrounding yourself with people who will push you a bit, but not nay-sayers.
Also, establish routines, and take care of yourself. Reach back to those routines to take care of yourself.

7. Social Media.  Yay or Nay?

Both. More on the Yay side. I get distracted on the social media stuff and end up getting lost in it; I could spend all day, every day commenting and connecting with people.

8. How do you market your products?

I market my products by using Facebook ads, joint venture partnerships, and a sales page on my website. I do email marketing and social media marketing, I write articles, and I do a lot of information based marketing, I provide a lot of great content about the benefits and also about the products. I give a lot of free information away. The best is word of mouth. I spend a lot of time nurturing my tribe. The people I build the connections with are the ones who spread the word about me.

9. Is your business a service or a product?  If you are a product, how do you handle production? 

Mostly service. 

10. What is unique about your business?

I think that my business is unique because I’m the face, and I’m the brand. That makes each business unique in a way. The way I connect with people is unique to my brand and my business.

11. Sell me your product/service.

Do ever feel like you are getting in your own way? I help people get out of their own way. I think that we are all called to greatness. Somehow, we get in our way, and we have fear that is from something in the past. I help people use their fear for the greater good. A lot of us hide in the shadows and silence our voice. The trick is to have the support to help guide us.
