What would an extra hour or two every day do for your business? What would you be able to accomplish that you just aren’t able to on a normal basis? Would you reach your weekly goals that you just can’t seem to meet every week?
Here are some easy ways to gain time in 15-30 minute increments to help get more done. To figure out how much time you need to gain, figure out what you want to accomplish, then decide to spend the extra time to pursue it. After you commit this focus, then find where your time leaks.
Do meal planning. Savings time: 20 minutes to 2 hours. Instead of spending 20 minutes every afternoon dreading and trying to figure out what to make for dinner that evening, you can spend 10-20 minutes just one time per week planning out a weekly menu. When you go to the grocery store, figure out your whole weeks’ worth of 3 mealsand snacks so you only have to visit the grocery store once that week. You will stop having to worry about what’s for dinner, and if plans change, it just gets moved to the next night. Simple!
Did you waste time in traffic or in a waiting room? Savings time: 15 minutes to 1 hour. If you find yourself waiting anywhere, in your car, in a doctors’ office, then you should be listening to an educational podcast or book on CD or mp3. Even in 15 minute increments, you can learn a lot! Some have estimated that you can get a whole college degree worth of education just by listening in their car in a couple of years.
In addition to educational listening and learning, you could do brainstorming, catch up on email, or write an email that you’ve been putting off. It’s best to keep your tasks simple and convenient to carry, so you can take advantage of these inevitable wait times.
Get ready for tomorrow today. Savings time: 30 minutes to 2 hours. Check your last emails of the day, organize files, pick up your desk, go through post its, review to-dos, and get ready for the next day before your leave your desk or workspace for the day. By finishing one day and reviewing for the next you’ll feel like one day’s end is really complete and the next day is ready to start.
Keep going at quitting time! Savings time: 15 minutes to 1.5 hours. Instead of flipping on Netflix as soon as the kids go to bed, use your pajama time and do just one more thing. Make sure it’s just one simple task that doesn’t need much energy since it’s evening, such as responding to emails or entering receipts for taxes. Do it now instead of tomorrow morning or putting it off until the weekend!
