How to Deal With Haters

Haters

How to deal with haters … People send me emails regularly regarding this topic. I saw it fitting enough to address it formally.

HATERS: Anyone who desires to be you and/or possess what you have. Its quite a simple concept to grasp. These people do not actually hate you. In a strange twist, they admire you. Why else would they want what you have?

Haters

Haters

Haters usually come in two forms: people you know and complete strangers. The people you know, who may be haters, could be in your inner circle. This person pretends to support you and your endeavors. They study you closely, as if you won’t notice. You may even break bread with these people and introduce them to some important contacts. They investigate you just enough to get your secret to being you. But sadly, they come to the realization that they can’t completely figure you out and they will NEVER be your bootleg carbon copy.

The complete strangers who post nasty comments online about you are honestly your biggest fans! It takes superior dedication to attempt bringing someone down from behind a computer screen. They wait patiently for your next Facebook post so that they can falsely report it. That’s some real determination. They want you to call them out and acknowledge their fine work.

In both scenarios, you should respond the same. Live Your Life! These people don’t dictate who you are or what you will become unless you give them that power. Its okay to recognize them every once in a while. Toss them a few crumbs while you feast. Charity is usually appreciated, right? I mean, they deserve some credit. If it wasn’t for them bashing your name, some people may not have researched you and later hired you. I guess they’re kind of like your pro bono publicist. I dunno. I see it as a win-win situation.

At the end of the day, stand firm on who you are. Do not allow some insecure person who you may or may not know define your character. People will always talk. There’s nothing you can do to change that. You can only control how you react to their stimulus. Live your life to the fullest, and let small minded people discuss insignificant things.
