One of the biggest realizations I have come to in business is that it’s all about sales. Everything we do hinges on sales. If you don’t get out and tell the world about your product or service, and make a sustained effort to tell the world about it, then you will die in obscurity. Sales is one of the key foundations of business – because you need buyers to buy your product or service.
Telling family and friends about your company is a good first step, but it’s not the only one that you need to take. The people closest to you will be your biggest advocates, but you need to reach out beyond your inner circles to truly be successful.
I had the realization about 4 months into owning my home care agency that I needed to seriously step up sales for the entire company if we were going to grow the way I wanted us to. That meant me, and every single staff member. We had to learn that everyone is responsible for sales, and the experience for the client, from the first time they reach us on the phone until we sign them, and through the entire experience.
Since Extension of You is a Home Care agency, we have opportunities along the way to up-sell, or increase our service. It’s up to us to deliver that exemplary service, and ask for more. If everyone on my staff is working together on this, then it’s not a big deal. But as soon as anyone loses sight of the fact that our clients need constant love and attention, we lose business.
This is also true for Leadership Girl. I’ve had the blog, and been doing some business coaching for a while now. I realized that I needed to seriously step up my game to publicize the blog, the posts, and the information we’re sharing. In short, I needed to be making a much more concerted effort to introduce myself to more people as a business coach, since it’s about helping more people than just the people in my circle of acquaintances. If I want to help more people, I have to make appropriate efforts so they can get to know, like and trust me enough to be willing to do business with me.
After all, you’re not going to hire a business coach you don’t know anything about, and you’re certainly not going to just stumble out there and find me on the internet, if I don’t make a point of building back links, and improving my SEO, and more. I have to put myself out there, and SELL my products and services, in a knowledgeable way, that isn’t overwhelming or pushy. It’s a lot of work, and it’s a lot of sales.
I came to the realization somewhere along the way that business lives or dies by sales, and that it’s all about sales, and making those sales over and over again, until the business is a success.
