When life gives you watermelons, what do you do? I was faced with that question yesterday afternoon, as part of the Watermelon Sale for the International Travel Group. We set up a watermelon stand at the Apex Flea Market, and didn’t sell nearly as many as we had hoped. Not nearly as many. So, what does this girl do when faced with 80 + watermelons? Well, in this case, we started calling people, and asking them if they’d like to buy a watermelon, or six. It doesn’t hurt to be optimistic. The daughters put on their vests and went and sold watermelons in front of our Favorite Spot, and then started going door to door, asking neighbors if they’d like to buy watermelons. Tomorrow night, we’ll repeat the same exercise, and have contingency plans figured out. But, at the end of the day, we WILL get rid of all of the watermelons. It’s a lesson in how to handle adversity, and get through it. I didn’t plan on selling watermelons this weekend, but here we are, because it’s the responsible thing to do.
What do you do when life hands you watermelons? How do you handle it when things don’t go right?
