Working Mom Interview – Angie Kidd

Angie is one of the moms from a working moms group that I joined a number of years ago.  Read her story to meet one of the amazing women in my life.  I think that getting to know women who are out there on the front lines every day is important.  Not everyone is a celebrity, but all of us are awesome!

1.  Do you stay at home, work at home, or work-outside the home? I work outside the home.

2. How many kids do you have? I have a 10 year old boy.

3. What’s your go-to dinner during the week?  My son and I both have Celiac Disease, so have to be gluten-free.  If time is short, we’ll either have tacos (from the Ortega taco kit) or gluten-free chicken nuggets (Tyson makes a pretty good frozen gf chicken nugget).

4.  What are your best tips for staying sane? Make sure to have time to yourself to do something you like. To me, that is more important than a super clean, orderly house.

5. What are your favorite tools for time/household management?  I keep a daily To Do list on the notes app of my iPhone. I also schedule things in my iPhone calendar.

6. Do you have pets?  If so, what kind?  Yes! 🙂 two dogs-Cheeto and Sam, two rabbits-Burt and Stewart, two parakeets-Perd and Kevin, a turtle-Theo, a water dragon-Drogon, a tarantula-Emma, a white rat-Cuddles, a one-winged paper wasp-Z and a praying mantis-Jonathan.  I like critters.

7. What are your hobbies?  I like taking care of our pets, playing the piano, drawing, knitting, doing puzzles, reading, being with my family and being outdoors.

8. What’s on your bucket list?  I want to go kayaking. I would also love to take a vacation where we’d just hike all day and stop for the night to camp when we get tired.  I would love to live in the country and have horses, goats, and sheep.

9. If you work, what do you do?  How did you decide to pursue this career?  I am an intake coordinator for a behavioral health practice.  I was laid off from my office job with a construction company when the economy tanked. I applied to all sorts of places and found my current company.  It must have been fate because I love it.

10. What’s the most rewarding part of your career?  Helping people. A lot of the time, I’m talking with parents who are concerned about their child, but they have no idea where to start or how to get the care they need.  It feels good to get them set up for services that will help their whole family in the long run.

11. If you could choose any career, what would it be? To run an animal rescue. Maybe someday!

12. If you could tell your younger self something, what would it be?  Don’t chase the money, chase what you love to do.
